So what’s all this malarky about….? Good question.
In one sentence, Catch the Lingo is a new community website set up to support those, who wish to live the language of Spanish (or teach English) here in Latin America. The website will be a powerful creature born for immersion travel; a one stop shop that allows you to find the right and book the right Spanish course or TEFL program. We will offer you lots of information on Volunteer programs and Accommodation.
Immersion travel, that is to become engaged with the language and culture of your host country by living there for a reasonable amount of time, is soaring in popularity. Last year approximately 70,000 people came to Argentina to do just that. Increasingly tourism is moving away from holidaying. More and more, us younglings, want to get stuck in and live a culture rather than just visit it. There are few greater rewards when travelling, than to be able to engage a local person in their own language and to dip your toes into their culture.
To set yourself up to do this is the painful part. Choosing the right Spanish school, TEFL program or Volunteer program can be frankly.. a pain where the sun doesn’t shine. Knowing where, how and when to go is a mountain of work. Often what information we can source back home is slanted and unreliable because in many cases it comes from agents based in our home country, who maintain exclusive relationships to one provider. Currently there is no one website that offers independent, trustworthy information we need at the point of booking for immersion travel in South America.
Catch the Lingo seeks to throw you a hand.. and bring you directly to the provider and in doing so become the immersion travel website. One that is both community orientated and community driven. She is coming to you from those who have travelled and immersed themselves in days gone by. We have made all the stupid mistakes that you won’t with with our help. We are here, living in South America and we love it.
This blog is a collection of snippets of interest, opinions and useful info on learning Spanish, volunteering and TEFL in South America (just Argentina and Chile for now but soon to include more countries)? click here if you are looking for our main site.
